Bio

Alice Lickens is an illustrator with a penchant for wordplay and a passion for humour.  She uses a lightbox when creating her works, which allows her to experiment with layers of colour and texture. This process adds depth and personality to her characters. Alice draws inspiration from old type sheets, Danish stamps, the work of Alexander Girard and aesthetics surrounding ‘roadside America’. Her work caught the eye of illustration legend Maurice Sendak shortly before his death and she was invited to live and draw in the woods near his home in Connecticut.
