Column Arts Agency are pleased to announce that we’ve signed our first international illustrator.
Hailing from New York City, Patty Bowman is a detail-obsessed illustrator and children’s author with a droll sense of humour.
Patty, who is often compared to Edward Gorey, likes to work in traditional pen-and-ink, and water colours. These mediums give her illustrations a cosy, homemade, feel.
She draws inspiration from her youth in 80s New England and from the “heartache and hilarity of it all”.
Excited to be part of the Column roster, she said: “Everyone’s work is wonderful and smart and hilarious. I knew immediately that I wanted to be involved.”
Illustration agency founder, William Astbury added: “We’re chuffed to bits that Patty has agreed to join Column.
“I’m a massive fan of her Hamweenie books because they remind me of days spent at my grannie’s house when I was growing up.
“It is also great to expanding Column’s reach over to the US, where so many great illustrators come from.”
Patty grew up in Rhode Island but now she resides in Brooklyn with her fat lazy tabby cat Bandini, inspiration for her Hamweenie books, and tiny terrier Pancakes.
