What Do They Do:

Immediate Media, formally called BBC Magazines, Origin Publishing and Magicalia, publish a large range of magazines, including the Top Gear, BBC Good Food and Radio Times.

Project Brief:

Column Arts Agency were asked to create two sets of spot illustrations, which showed how to tie knots and create a periscope out of a milk carton, a double page spread that depicted the inside of a scout hut and two front covers for Get Active and Instant Scouting, which are inserts for Scouting magazine.

Immediate chose Column artists Mr Hass, aka Hassan Torossian, and Trou, aka Nick Robertson, for the job.


The Column Arts Agency illustrators succeeded in producing incredible work that fitted both the brief and suited the magazines’ audience – Scout leaders.

‘Scouting’ has a readership of 111,000 mainly based in the UK, so you can see why everyone at the arts agency is so excited about this project! It is a 68-page magazine while Get Active and Instant Scouting are included in it as a 32-page supplements.

The project was completed within the deadline and the client was chuffed to bits with the illustrations.

“Our client is particularly pleased with Hassan’s work on the front cover of Get Active, which they feel – on just it’s second issue – has fully found it’s feet and identity. It was a bold statement that really paid off and exceeded all expectations.
